The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has included Disodium Tetraborate in the candidate list of Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC), effective from 18 June 2010. It is therefore necessary to check whether there is a duty of notification according to article 33 of Directive 1907/2006/EC (REACH Directive).
Inclusion in the candidate list is relevant to the following products of our delivery program:
|020091||SLOTOCLEAN Salt AK 91|
Disodium tetraborate can be used in different modifications (anhydrous, pentahydrate or decahydrate) in degreasing baths. These processes are only applied for cleaning of metal surfaces, there is no inclusion in the metal surface. Products which have been pre-treated in borate-containing degreasers will not contain these materials, and so there is no duty of notification according to article 33 of Directive 1907/2006/EC (REACH Directive) .
Due to the inclusion of Disodium tetraborate in the SVHC candidate list the Schloetter group as the supplier of preparations is obliged to make the corresponding classification in the Material Safety Data Sheet.
For Disodium tetraborate a new classification (T, Repro.cat2 : R 60, R61) has been mandated in the 1st adaptation of Regulation 1272/2008/EC. The adaptation is a directly acting regulation (790/2009/EC) becoming effective from 1st Dec 2010.
For reasons of product responsibility Schloetter has already made the new classification of Disodium tetraborate according to the 1st ATP (Adaptation to Technical Progress). All additional information, demanded by its inclusion in the SVHC candidate list, is therefore already included in the product Material Safety Data Sheet.
