Protect your products from UV damage with effective UV-blocking coatings

Bottled products are vulnerable to UV light, which can affect colour, flavour, and stability.

UV exposure has harmful effects on some bottled products, such as spirits beverages, especially gin, rum and whiskey, as well as certain pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. UV light causes discoloration, taste degradation, and alters chemical stability.

A truly effective method of UV protection is applying a UV blocking coating. Such coating blocks the UV by absorbing the UV light, preserving the contents of your bottle.

Graph

Our coatings deliver exceptional UV protection, blocking out harmful rays with outstanding efficiency.

With 0% transmission (100% absorbance) up to around 360nm, your product is fully shielded across the most critical UV spectrum—safeguarding both quality and appearance. Even at 400nm, within the less aggressive UVA range, the coating continues to perform strongly, maintaining approximately 20% absorbance for an added layer of protection.

The graph shows a direct comparison between a coated glass slide and an uncoated glass slide, highlighting the difference in UV absorption. While the uncoated glass allows significant UV penetration, the coated glass demonstrates consistent blocking performance. This ensures bottles not only look vibrant but also offer superior preservation for the beverages inside.

UV-blocking clear coating is a good alternative to traditional approach to tint glass.

For centuries, tinted glass has been the go-for solution for protecting beverages from light exposure. Amber, green, and blue bottles each provide varying degrees of UV filtration. However, coloured glass isn’t always ideal for today’s branding needs. Many premium spirit and beverage producers favour the elegance and transparency of clear glass bottles, allowing the product itself to be showcased while keeping design flexibility.
